Sue Simmons, AiM

Choir Director and Organist

Sue Simmons came to Messiah in 2007 to serve in Pastoral Care and as an organist. Sue is now serving Messiah as Director of Traditional Worship. She is the principal organist, choir director and assists in worship planning. She has a passion for sharing the joy of God’s gift of music in worship and in helping others use their talents to serve God. Choir rehearsals are a mix of God’s Word, prayer, laughter, food, and (oh yes) learning music.
Sue and John were married in 1976 after both graduated in music from the University of Iowa. After college, Sue taught elementary band in Iowa before she and John joined the Strategic Air Command Band at Offutt AFB near Bellevue, Nebraska. Sue has also taught general music to preschool – 8th grade. Sue started playing organ for church services when she was 16.
Sue is an Associate-in -Ministry with the ELCA, serving a call from the Nebraska Synod of the ELCA as a hospice chaplain with the Visiting Nurse Association. She completed a Master of Arts in Theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
In the “after duty hours”, Sue and John enjoy their 3 dogs, bicycling, and going to concerts and movies.
