Bruce Bender, Chancel Choir Director

Bruce directs our Traditional, 8:30 a.m. choir. In addition to weekly anthems during the school year, Bruce coordinates music for our summer services and our community events on Thanksgiving Eve and at the Community Christmas Carol Sing-a-Long. His goal is to present two seasonal cantatas each year. Bruce invites members to participate on a full or part-time basis. According to his wife, Phyllis, you don't have to read music, just have a good ear and a desire to serve God through the beauty of music.

Bruce is the Artist Faculty Instructor in Class Piano and Applied Oboe at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He received a Master of Music Degree in Vocal and Oboe Performance and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Technology from Michigan State University. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music and Math Education at Olivet College. He is presently pursuing a Master of Music degree in Conducting.

Bruce served in the Air Force twenty two years as oboist and vocalist. On oboe, he has performed the Oboe Concerto in C by Haydn, the Concerto in F and the Double Oboe Concerto in C both by Vivaldi. Other works performed include the Concerto for Oboe and Trumpet by Hertel, and Concerto in C Minor by Marcello. As vocalist, he has been a soloist featured on music from The King and I and The Student Prince.
