Junior and Senior High Discipleship
Here at Messiah, our youth really focus on the lost, least and lonely. They love serving others with the rest of their youth, and really find God’s love in helping others that aren’t as fortunate. The volunteers help the youth to explore their different talents and spiritual gifts. Each year there are many traditional service projects, from things like serving the local food pantry or shelter, to going on work trips in high school, as well as everyday acts, such as raking leaves for an elder. These service opportunities provide the youth with an understanding of the world around them, and the miracles of Jesus. By serving others, not only do they begin to bond with other youth, but also get to know the people they are serving. This creates intentional relationships through Christ, and keeps the youth growing in their faith journey.
Not only do we steer the youth to look at outward ministry; we also want them to create an upward relationship with Jesus, through Sunday school, confirmation, and the ELCA National Youth Gatherings. We hope that by providing these opportunities, the youth have a chance to praise their God, and to hear their call from Him. This opens up doors for kids to talk to others about God and their lifestyle with faith as a priority. This creates our inward relationships with other youth, members, and leadership at Messiah.
By having a balanced up, in and out relationship with our faith, we can ensure that we are teaching the disciples in the next generation, which really is the future of Messiah and our mission.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)
